Katera H. Nelson, Attorney at Law

After practicing in multiple areas of law, Attorney Katera H. Nelson utilized her experience and education to open The Law Office of Katera H. Nelson, LLC., where she focuses on criminal defense and civil litigation. Katera understands that navigating the complexities of legal matters can be a daunting task, and is committed to aiding each client in smoothly resolving their unique legal issue. She is an experienced attorney who is committed to quality service and legal competency. 

Katera is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana who relocated to Atlanta, Georgia in 2005. She graduated Cum Laude from Clark Atlanta University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. During her matriculation, she served as president of the Alpha Beta Beta Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society. 

While earning her Juris Doctorate from Western Michigan University's Thomas M. Cooley School of Law, Katera served as vice chairperson of the Moot Court Board as well as the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan. She acquired extensive experience in the criminal law arena by working with the Washtenaw Public Defender’s Office in Michigan, where she represented clients charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses. 

As a third year law student, Katera worked as a prosecutor in the Fayette County District Attorney’s Office investigating and prosecuting felony criminal cases. After graduating and passing the bar, she went on to further her career by practicing criminal defense in the Atlanta area.

To diversify her legal experience, Katera also practiced as a plaintiff’s attorney. She worked on various aspects of civil litigation, and successfully obtained substantial judgements on behalf of clients. She also negotiated settlements of outstanding delinquent accounts as well as facilitated status meetings for private entities. 

Katera is active in two branches of Georgia Association of Women Lawyers. She is also a member of Power Suit Project, an organization dedicated to providing educational, mentoring, and leadership opportunities for women.  

In her spare time, Katera enjoys exploring Georgia with friends, collecting vinyl records, and mimicking the culinary stylings of Chef Gordon Ramsey.
